In this week’s video, we talk about one of the most discussed topic in Fluid Mechanics i.e. Computational Fluid Mechanics (CFD). CFD is a branch of fluid mechanics that uses computers to simulate fluid flow problems. We talk about the need for CFD and the various steps involved including discretization(meshing), solution and post processing. We also talk about the fifferent forms of the Navier stokes equation that are used to reduce computational effort from direct numerical simulation(DNS), Large eddy simulation(LES), Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS)equations. What are CFDs? Contract For Differences is a way to basically "bet" on the price movement of a product, you can trade CFDs or stocks, commodities, indices, forex and more. You don't own or trade the underlying product in any way, you simply trade on the price movement of that product, which is why CFDs are known as derivatives. Trading CFDs is very risky because CFD brokers usually give leverage to traders, however CFDs allow for easy, liquid and low cost trade of many products that would otherwise be quite difficult to trade on. CFDs are traded in units, which sometimes correspond to the price of the underlying, but not always. So I wrote this CFD software called FluidX3D. Simulations with 10 billion cells take just a few hours on a single GPU server. It's more than 100x faster than commercial CFD software. It can render results directly from VRAM, so no need to store hundreds of Terabyte of volumetric data on the hard drive. It works on any gaming PC, you can even look at the simulations interactively while they are running. I've put the entire source code on GitHub: 🤍 I'm using two techniques, which together form the holy grail of lattice Boltzmann, cutting memory demand down to only 55 Bytes/node for D3Q19 LBM, or 1/3 of conventional codes: 1. In-place streaming with Esoteric-Pull. This almost cuts memory demand in half and slightly increases performance due to implicit bounce-back boundaries. Paper: 🤍 2. Decoupled arithmetic precision (FP32) and memory precision (FP16): all arithmetic is done in FP32, but LBM density distribution functions in memory are compressed to FP16. This almost cuts memory demand in half and almost doubles performance, without impacting overall accuracy for most setups. Paper: 🤍 Graphics are done directly in FluidX3D with OpenCL, with the raw simulation data already residing in ultra-fast video memory. No volumetric data ever has to be copied to the CPU or hard drive, but only rendered 4K frames (33MB) instead. Once on the CPU side, a copy of the frame is made in memory and a thread is detached to handle the slow .png compression, all while the simulation is already continuing. 나흘 연속 무더기 하한가 사태, 유명 연예인을 포함해 정·재계 고액 자산가들까지 연루된 것으로 알려지면서 대규모 주가조작 범죄로 새로운 국면을 맞고 있는데요. 이 사태의 진원지로 주목받고 있는 CFD, 차액결제거래가 대체 뭐길래, 주식시장을 충격과 공포로 몰아넣었는지 자세히 알아보겠습니다. 차액결제거래란, 증권사가 대신 주식을 매매해 차익은 투자자에게 주고 증권사는 수수료를 가져가는 파생금융상품입니다. 보통 주식 거래는 내 돈으로 주식을 사거나 팔아서 이득을 얻거나 손실 보죠. 하지만 CFD는 말 그대로 주식을 사고판 '차액'을 거래하는 거라고 보시면 됩니다. 쉽게 말해 수중에 40만 원이 있는데, 특정 주식을 100만 원어치 사고 싶다. 그럴 때, 증권사에 내가 40만 원 보증금을 낼 테니, 특정 주식을 100만 원어치 사달라고 요구합니다. 다시 말하면 60만 원은 증권사에서 빌리는 거죠. 그렇게 증권사가 대신 매수한 주식은 오르든 내리든 차액이 발생하겠죠? 바로 이 차액을 거래하는 겁니다. 만약 20만 원의 이득을 봤다면, 투자자 입장에서는 내 돈 40만 원으로 증권사의 손을 빌려 50%의 수익률을 얻은 셈이죠. 하지만 거꾸로 손해를 봐도 이득만큼이나 손실률이 크기 때문에 고위험·고수익 상품입니다. 주식 거래 없이 차익만 거래한다는 점에서 공매도와 비슷한 효과를 낼 수 있는데요. 이 때문에 공매도 활용에 제약이 있는 개인 투자자들이 주로 CFD에 많은 관심을 보였고, 증권사들도 지난 2015년 경쟁적으로 서비스를 도입했습니다. 그리고 2019년 개인 투자자들이 진입할 수 있는 장벽을 더욱 낮추면서 CFD 시장은 급성장했고, 2021년, 전년 대비 거래 규모는 두 배로 늘며 70조 원을 넘어섰습니다. 특히 CFD 거래는 양도세 회피의 수단으로도 활용됩니다. 큰 액수의 주식을 보유하면 거래세 외에 양도세를 내야 하는데, CFD는 내가 주식을 갖고 있는 게 아니죠. 일부 보증금을 내면 증권사가 대신 매수하고 보유합니다. 결과적으로 내가 보유한 게 아니기 때문에 양도세를 내지 않아도 되는 겁니다. 또 증권사가 대신 주식을 사고파는 '차명 거래'에 가깝기 때문에, 주가 조작 세력들도 노출을 피하기 위해 CFD를 노립니다. 실제 한국거래소가 2020년 적발한 사례 중엔 투자자 A씨가 자신이 보유한 종목의 주가가 떨어지자 CFD 계좌를 이용해 대거 시세 조종성 매수를 해 주가를 끌어올린 경우도 있습니다. 무더기 하한가 사태의 주범으로 지목되고 있는 CFD 그 이면에 시세 조종 세력이 있다는 의혹이 불거지면서 믿고 투자한 종목에 배신당했다는 개미 투자자들의 한숨이 짙어 지고 있습니다. 이번 대형 사고가 코스피 시장 전체의 신뢰도를 추락시키지 않도록 금융당국의 발 빠르고 엄정한 대응이 필요해 보입니다. Machine learning is rapidly becoming a core technology for scientific computing, with numerous opportunities to advance the field of computational fluid dynamics. This paper highlights some of the areas of highest potential impact, including to accelerate direct numerical simulations, to improve turbulence closure modeling, and to develop enhanced reduced-order models. In each of these areas, it is possible to improve machine learning capabilities by incorporating physics into the process, and in turn, to improve the simulation of fluids to uncover new physical understanding. Despite the promise of machine learning described here, we also note that classical methods are often more efficient for many tasks. We also emphasize that in order to harness the full potential of machine learning to improve computational fluid dynamics, it is essential for the community to continue to establish benchmark systems and best practices for open-source software, data sharing, and reproducible research. Although they may look similar, trading futures and CFD's are two different things. Yes, both have a similar underlying price but one has a massive disadvantage. If you have guessed that CFD's have the disadvantage, you have guessed it right. Not only do they give you a spread that works against you, your broker fully sees all your hands, but also you have no ability to impact the market. By trading CFD you simply take a bet but do not participate in the price discovery at all. On the other hand, with futures, you have the chance to be a market participant that actually votes with your own money and supports the desired direction. That is a big difference. In this video we talk about the difference between CFD trading and actual stock trading, why beginners should avoid CFDs and where a beginner can go to invest properly. Investing is a minefield if you don’t know what you are doing. Many beginners are drawn in by cool adds online that suggest you can make loads of money easily in no time at all. The reality is that investing will usually take a long time to build wealth but most importantly it can be done, if done the right way from the very beginning. If done wrong however, you will lose an absolute tonne of money. There is a major difference between Stock trading and CFD trading. Unfortunately, it seems that CFD brokers have enormous marketing budgets, and beginner investors often come across these before they come across a proper investment platform. Without knowing what they are doing they lose a small fortune and are put off from investing for life. With CFD trading about 82% of customers lose money and the average loss is £2,200 per client. It’s so bad the FCA have been cracking down on the practice with new regulations such as limiting leverage. You’ll notice on CFD broker websites large warnings about how many of their customers lose money. We think these warnings are great because it instantly tells us whether this is a genuine share dealing site or whether it’s a platform we would want to avoid.
